A seventeen year old girl goes to a clinic to have an abortion. She wasn’t even sure she wanted one, but she doesn’t feel like she has much of a choice. She feels empty now, and her boyfriend is shocked that can’t engage in sex for several weeks. He doesn’t even apologize. He doesn’t leave his wife. And she has no one else to talk to about the abortion. She is a child. He is an adult. Her heart is forever broken. And she still had to brave the crowds of people who threatened her, argued with her, and called her names as she went into the abortion clinic. So, can someone tell me what other choice this girl felt she had? Moreover, can someone explain to me what good the abortion protestors did for her heart and her soul as she went through with a decision she wasn’t able to make in the first place?

The abortion rights councils and the women’s rights councils have been squaring off for decades over a woman’s right to have an abortion. It is a curious argument, that anyone would want the government interfering with anyone’s body. We wouldn’t ask her to surrender her body for cancer, for contagious diseases, and certainly not even for HIV. So why would we expect her to surrender her body to the government for the purpose of avoiding an abortion, the most private and personal choice that could ever be made?
